If I were to design a house I would use the yard as my standard of measure. I would use multiples of the yard for room dimensions and subdivisions of the yard for doors, windows and other fixtures. Any reasonable person who was not aware of my standard of measure would be able to determine, if not my measurement, then at least the creator is reasonable. The problem of determining my standard is that the investigator would be unable to determine if my standard is a yard, a foot, six inches or another subdivision of the yard.
If I were to design a universe, it would not be practical to use a defined standard as a yard or a mile. The impracticality is demonstrated by the distances of the arms of a spiral galaxy down to the finger lengths of a man: the distance is too great for one standard and the subdivisions would be unwieldy numbers. Therefore, I must use, not a defined length, but a ratio as a standard. I would use a ratio of two, that is, a galaxy could be divided in half and this number divided by two and continuing until the smallest unit is reached.

The only shapes that can be represented by the irrational number Phi in our universe are the pentagram and pentagon. The horizontal line has a value of eight and the "arms" of this pentagram have a value of 13. Each larger pentagram's arms have a value of 21, 34, 55 ad infinitum.
We agree the natural laws are rational, however they constitute a small portion of creation. While the one law of gravity is in effect on our planet, and presumably throughout the cosmos, the myriad examples of Phi that are represented by the animal and plant kingdoms overwhelm by their sheer number what rationally exists in our world.
Unlike the Gnostics of old who divided mankind into their material and spiritual elements, we make a distinction between the rational and irrational in mankind. This dichotomy seems natural as we witness individuals who prefer sciences and research, who many be called rational thinking, and individuals whose thinking and behavior many be described as irrational. We are not creating artificial categories, but stating the obvious. These two classes are as opposite as the Gnostic spirit and material.
While certain writers decry the irrational behavior of the majority, we wonder if their actions are not inherently natural, considering the nature of Phi. It is the inescapable nature of the universe. I am not excusing their behavior, but attempting to find a reason for it. Like the Gnostics, only a remnant of people, those who possess gnosis, have the ability or natural inclination for the rational aspect, while the majority are irrational, like the psychics.
Ghosts, Astrology, the Immortal Soul, Extraterrestrials, Religion: Are these beliefs irrational when we consider the nature of the universe?
