Religiously, the Jews understand that all non Jews are Gentiles, similar to the manner of the Greeks calling non Greeks “barbarians”. However, since the text is in Greek and the presumed audience was early Christians who read Greek, the translation of Ἔθνος as “Gentiles” seems misdirected, even in the context of the Pauline Epistles. The translation of Ἔθνος as “nations” has no religious implications, unlike the word “Gentile”.
