There are few memories that we have from our youth whose clarity remains so vivid as that one time in our high school PE class. The class finished our education and Coach Wolf said something to the effect that it was time to hit the weights and impress the girls. My immediate thought was why should I care about what others think about my looks. I have since discovered that the body betrays the mind, however, in this example my conclusion betrayed my reasoning. The gulf between the "cool kids" who vie for accolades for sports and for approval for clothing and myself is fixed by nature. Then as now, I gaze across the vale and see virtues and qualities that I admire, but their values are not mine; their goals, alien; their behavior, inscrutable.
This episode did not trouble me, as there many moments that I felt awkward, but this feeling is accompanied by my clear mental response to the moment: "What do I care?"

Don Giovanni is a favorite character because he flaunts conventional morality. We wonder if Don Ottavio and Masetto do not envy Don Giovanni's freedom. For all of Giovanni's faults, being unaware is not one them, hubris, yes, hedonism, yes, but not inexperience.
