Titus Andronicus-an Opera in Two Acts
I am using Titus Andronicus as the basis for a libretto for an opera in English. After killing the nurse, Aaron will leave, never to be seen again. By the end of the opera, the characters will assume Tamora and her sons were behind the vengeance against the Andronici for killing Alabrus.
The concepts of noble, virtue and honor will be used throughout to show that these concepts mean difference things to different people.
Rome will be referenced as "the city", an allusion to the Republic.
Among the gifts that Titus presents to Saturninus, will be the solar orb that was coveted by the Queen of the Night.
Aaron is perfect as a philosopher since he doesn't believe in God or a system or morality and works behind the scenes influencing Tamora, her sons and Saturnine. Saturnine will be considered a victim of the machinations, since he will be interred in his father's tomb.
The suffering characters want revenge and justice from heaven or hell. They expect an intercession. Justice only comes about through the interest of the stronger.
Philologists will find the libretto interesting for reasons that only they will know. (One hint: the Roman/Greek Gods entered the English language in the 1500's, so these are contemporary references.) For non philologists, they will need to consult the Oxford English Dictionary- every word ever used with every definition in 20 volumes. Buy a copy today.
Not to be outdone by the Magic Flute or the Matrix Trilogy, the 22 images of Tarot will also make appearances. If the truth be told, I am not even attempting all 78 images, so I will give kudos to the Matrix for that successful integration into the Trilogy.
