In Defense of Greek Mythology

The nature of youth can be justly described by their lack of caution and, to a lesser extent, their desire to debate; to debate to argue, not to understand. Typically, their worldview is tribal, not cosmopolitan. For all of Braedon's perceived shortcomings, I am fortunate to have met him, a typical Cancer Gemini with a trace of mercurial pugnaciousness; a product of the Modern Age. The bone of contention between Braydin and Yours Truly is Greek mythology. He categorically states that Greek mythology is not real, that it is fiction. On my part, I have divulged that I read certain sections of Bullfinch's mythology in my youth. I have not stated my “belief” on the veracity of what I read, that is, I have no opinion.
I collected comic books and never questioned that Richie Rich's parents were named Richard and Regina and he had well known cousins, such as Mayda Money and Reginald Van Dough. I accepted what I read and to this day I have no doubts regarding Richie's closest associates, that the Rich Mansion is so large that some rooms have not been explored and a Dollarmation is a rare dog breed.
I have read numerous critiques of Christianity, ranging from brilliant academic contributions to fantastical speculation, and, yet, to date, I am unaware of any writings suggesting that Zeus did not seduce the fair and impressionable Ganymede. I suggest that either the ire of critical minds is focused solely on Christianity or that these critical minds have no contentions with the adventures of the Greek gods and their amorous adventures. It seems to me that at least one superior intellect would turn to Greek myths and easily expose these frauds for they are, yet we wait for such a systematic denunciation. We must conclude that water being turned into wine is more troubling to certain scholars than Apollo's infatuations, flirtations, and seductions of Hyacinth and Cyparissus.
While no one has seriously suggested that these myths are factual accounts, the same cannot be said for the promoters of the Bible's miracles. In fact, there are legions of the latter who are tenaciously confronted by a small, but dedicated, following of deniers of Biblical stories. At times, Bradun is eager, all too eager, to reiterate that these stories are categorized as myths, as though “myth”, or any word, is a talisman to banish thought or reason.
We are unaware of anyone suggesting that Richie Rich is a real historical person and this lack of advocacy is marked by a lack of criticism, Braedinn included.
