The Scapegoat

Disappointment and control are often entwined-
those who try to control others are usually disappointed.
those who try to control others are usually disappointed.

Martin Luther is an excellent case study involving loving something, in his situation the church, criticizing it, then hating it, and disavowing it. Yet, the Roman Church did not change doctrines or dogmas during Luther's life, it was only Luther's understanding, assumptions, and behavior regarding the church that changed. Luther's example is the reason why there exists in our world a considerable number of former coworkers, fewer acquaintances, and still fewer long term acquaintances. Currently, there are no people that I have designated as "friends" and this has been true for many years- I stopped using the word "friends" in 1999. For long and painful experience has taught me that “friends”, for a myriad of inexplicable reasons, are those that should be intimately familiar with one's outlook, values, habits, and behavior, yet they seem to be continually surprised by Yours Truly.
We suggest that the vast majority of individuals, including Luther, only understand situations and events that they can be relate to in their own lives, that is, unfamiliar aspects are filtered through their mind, through their assumptions, and through their opinions and these unfamiliar items become misunderstood, since they have only accepted, and not adequately thought about, what they have experienced, or sometimes, in the example of Luther, for a lifetime or many years. We suggest that the more cosmopolitan and reflective the individual is, the less likely they will misunderstand others. Perhaps more imaginative individuals are not so easily self deceived, as they could imagine such behavior and if not avoid those people who exhibit such behavior, then, at least, to acknowledge the existence of certain behavior.
We recall times when I was a teenager being told that I would change, presumably because we were correctly perceived as being conservative and naïve and, as we would experience more real world adventures, our views would change. We doubt that the young reticent Capricorn would respond to elders and certain others who claimed to know more about the of future views of Yours Truly. At that time, we lacked the wording and the long experience of clarifying uninformed opinions, but we possessed the inherent conservatism that is the hallmark of Capricorn. Today, we are no more liberal than when were were a teenager, in fact, due to our experiences, conversations, and reflections, we are, if possible, even more conservative. Our circumstances have changed a multitude of times, but our being, our value, our outlook has not changed. Reading Plato, Fred, and Ayn have not changed who we are, but have given us the wording, not the insight to veracity, that we lacked. Of course, we realize these writers are conservatives par excellence, but we are not slavish towards their ideas; the theory of forms and the immortal soul are but two examples that we reject for unrelated reasons.
We suggest that most people lack defined values or morals and are carried about by vague feelings that guide, if that is the correct word, them through life. These emotionally driven individuals are frequently disappointed by other's behavior, if only because they did not know them and, upon realizing the truth [whatever that is...] or the fact, quickly turn on them and state that they hate the individual. But why? Lack of values coupled with lack of reflection- Know thyself so that you know what motivates your behavior. Once again, the Capricorn becomes the scapegoat. Why are we vilified now for what we have done for years, if not decades? We would suspect that long term acquaintances should not suddenly disavow our existence, unless, we speculate, they have recently realized an aspect of Yours Truly that was always present, but unperceived or not given an adequate weight.
Whatever aspect, perk, or behavior that was realized, whatever what was concluded, it must have been so abhorrent, malevolent, and evil that it provokes one to use words as “hate” to describe not our actions, but our person. During the obligatory pontificating monologue, we were assured that we would be welcomed back to their supposedly sought after graces, on the condition that we fulfilled certain specific criteria. One speculates the speaker was channeling the Roman Episcopate. But why, Gentle Reader, would we want to be accepted by one who is clearly unaware and, after unawareness has transmuted to awareness, attempting to control us through fear and guilt? Appearance tyrannizes over truth. We wouldn't want that type of person in our immediate circle because, as a Capricorn, we value quality over quantity and we do not lack a defined morality that willingly accepts dictatorial methods whose only goal is obedience, not reason; control, not enlightenment. We assign that infrequent “soul searching” to be a painful exercise for those individuals. Again, the scapegoat must bear the brunt of unreason and unfettered emotions. Ultimatums are best left to blackmailers, war mongers and those impotents who are utterly incapable of enforcing their will on others.
We do not force nor do we beg people to associate with us- such is our one begrudging acknowledgement of the idea of free will- and "people come and go so quickly". In the initial moments of mental anguish of being “persona non grataed” [Yup, I verbed it] by a long term colleague a week before the anniversary of our birth, our thought was to methodically remove all references to the now persona non grata [PNG] from our website, but as we do not like to rework or edit long finished projects that frequently reference to other works, and as there are over sixty references to and quotes from PNG, we have resolved to leave the papers, notes, and future projects as they were created, if only to acknowledge the not inconsiderable contributions of PNG- over one in ten pages on the website- such is the unreasonable conduct of “second handers” who are so concerned about their lack of talent and being overshadowed or surpassed by those of different ability.
We recall a suggestion that occurred within the last year and it was a simple request: that we delete my site and it should come as no surprise that we refused. Had we done what was asked, we would not have any extent writings, that is, our life's work, nor an acquaintance. We realized the request was without reason and did not comply, but we could not foresee myself being rejected. We suspect the goal of the bizarre request was to leave us with no achievements or camaraderie and in a state of either complete depression or complete dependence, that is, obedience. Since we have a hierarchy of values, we could not destroy a lifetime of work, regardless of the person asking, the sham reasons that might be given, or any attempt to manipulate my actions through guilt or fear. “A torto di viltate tacciato mai sarò.”
The personal accusations continued until our intelligence and intellect were questioned. We realized the ad hominem baiting tactic for what it was [a juvenile attempt to provoke anger] and did not respond, but allowed the diatribe to continue unabated. What we learned may surprise the Gentle Reader: We are not as intelligent, insightful, or capable as we claim and we admit this observation is correct when we am confronted with, and expected to conform, to magical thinking. Flights of fantasy, leaps of logic, and gaps in reasoning are not my strengths, so it is a reasonable and truthful statement that we seem to be overwhelmed with unstated goals cum endless “research”; research that was almost always wholly random, without cause or precedent, and whereby our five senses will always be inadequate to contend with a supposed supernatural “sixth sense” whose superiority trumps any merely human facility. Long and painful experience has resulted in our being cautious when encountering those people who espouse and promote their individual mystical insights into our common and shared reality.
Although we could not always follow the development and direction of the aforementioned research, yet during our many conversations we were able to realize that many statements and many insights had merit, or with little effort, were capable of being worked into a thought provoking paper. As previously stated, at least one tenth of the pages of our website had their genesis in discussions with Apprentice Tyler. Gentle Reader, the Occult and Nature are unforgiving, but unlike Nature, the Occult will tolerate a void and, as of this writing, we can not but wonder how we will replace such a long term collaborator.
