Thanksgiving 2012
G.D.O'Bradovich III

One Thursday during the course of the year is set aside for one to give “thanks” in Modern America. As a native English speaker, I tend to prefer words with Germanic or Anglo Saxon origins, as these words or sounds do not feel alien. However, “thanks” does not do much for my ear, although “Thank you” is not harsh in the least. I prefer gratitude from the Latin “gratias”. As astrology teaches, ingratitude is not a trait of Capricorn.
I am grateful for the people I meet who are not in my social circle, for many are called, but few are chosen.
I am thankful that I endured a childhood and adolescence in a small midwestern town, whose inhabitants have an IQ slightly to the right of 80 on the bell curve, that I would cherish the cosmopolitan adventures that are the just reward of patience.
I was blessed with ignorant parents that told me to “Look it up” upon hearing a query, for this is a prerequisite of going to source material and learning to distrust opinion and second hand sources.
I give thanks for the horrible, incompetent and pompous managers, for now I know that competence and pride in one’s ability is a rarity.
I am thankful that people lie and are duplicitous, for I have become cautious when interacting with people and their writings.
I am grateful for a certain assistant whose ability outside of the occult arts insures his success, regardless of occupation or circumstances.
I am thankful that I know unmotivated, spiritless, lazy individuals, so that I appreciate driven, industrious people.
I am thankful people who refuse to listen to my advice, knowledge and experience, for I have learned not waste precious time on their problems, issues and concerns.
I am indebted to pessimists and their often time worrying about endless ills and problems, so that reality and reasonable possibilities are less overwhelming than what fear mongers imagine.
I am grateful for now I know that the shadows come from the light.
I am thankful for people who dictate how I should behave, for these people have been told how to behave and have acted accordingly, for I do not conform to their small mindedness or immaturity.
I am blessed by those individuals who attempt to use fear and guilt as motivation for behavior, for I know that by exposing them, their superstitious influence becomes powerless.
I praise hypocrites or Christians who say something and do another, for I now know that actions speak louder than words.
I am grateful for a certain gentleman benefactor, whose invaluable assistance has allowed me to carry on my occult studies, for without him, I’d be lost.
I am thankful for people who take intent of an action and not the consequences of that action as value, for I now know that they are morally bankrupt.
I am thankful that I failed my French and Mathematics classes at Purdue University, for I would be a tenured Biochemistry professor at Berkeley or UCLA earning minimum wage.
I am indebted to jealous individuals who attempt to control others through childish machinations, for they will learn the meaning of “paradox”.
I am thankful for people who have no use for the mind’s ability to reason and gain insight, for I spend less time engaging them.
I am grateful for apprentices who are known only to me and for their occult insights, for I have never had an original idea nor ever will.
I am thankful people who deny reality of facts and existence, for I leave them to their fantasy world.
I give thanks to people who, having certificates of completion from universities and colleges, think that I am as unaware and ignorant and unreasoning as everyone they have contact with, for I am not.
I am indebted to the majority of people who are cowards in word and deed, for I know that all human progress comes from the minority who challenges convention.
Upon reflection, Gentle Reader, I am grateful and thankful for many things in this life. One doesn’t realize how much one is thankful and grateful for, until one makes a list. I recommend this for everyone.
