These gospels cannot be read too carefully; difficulties lurk behind every word.

Nietzsche
background
In “Crucifixus Etiam Pro Nobis”, historical paintings of the crucifixion were examined to determined which elements, e.g., onlookers, thieves, and soldiers, were consistent among various artists. There were no consistency and the conclusion was there was no universally recognised written tradition, only an oral tradition regarding the Crucifixion. At that time (2012), we did not not question the presence of a cross, as contrasted with either a pole or a staff, and we are correcting our former conclusion. We now know that the only consistency among crucifixion depictions in the western church is Jesus upon a cross, not a pole.
In “Et Resurrexit Tertia Die”, we demonstrated that the western church understood Jesus’ tomb differently than the eastern Church's’ understanding, and this traditional understanding was found in the Greek word “airo”, meaning to “lift up”. Therefore, the western church understood Jesus’ tomb as being horizontal and the covering slab was lifted, showing the empty tomb. The tradition of rolling, and not lifting, the covering stone from the tomb entrance is found in the synoptic Gospels. The images of the resurrection in the western church are consistent among other western painters.
By taking Nietzsche’s advice, and not substituting our folly for his wisdom, we will research various words pertaining to the Crucifixion as found in the New Testament.
We will assiduously avoid centuries old prejudices and strive for philological facts. Should we fail on either account, we will hold Probational Associate Assistant Isaac accountable.
The Blue Letter Bible has been consulted.

ξύλον
ξύλον

A1a4. a cudgel, stick, staff
2. a tree
Mat 26:47 And while he yet spake... a great multitude with swords and staves, G3586...
Mat 26:55 ... Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves G3586 for to take me?...
Mar 14:43 And immediately, while he yet spake.. a great multitude with swords and staves, G3586..
Mar 14:48 ...Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves G3586 to take me?

Act 10:39 ...the Jews... slew [him] and hanged on a tree: G3586
Act 13:29 ...they took him down from the tree, G3586 and laid him in a sepulchre.
G3586 is consistently translated as “staves” in Mark 14 and Luke 22, but in Acts 5, 10, and 13, Jesus is not crucified on a stave, but on a tree. We offer no explanation for this arbitrary translation.
Act 16:24 Who, having received such a charge... and made their feet fast in the stocks. G3586
1Co 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, G3586 ...
Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us ... for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: G3586
We are uncertain if Saint Paul is being literal concerning the Jesus crucified on a tree, or if he is allegorizing a passage from the law.
1Pe 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, G3586 …
Rev 2:7 ... To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree G3586 of life, ...

ἀνάστασις

Act 1:22 ... must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection. G386

Some Christians wrongly believe that the resurrection is in the past, not in the future. We suggest that this confusion is due to excessive allegorizing.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ teaches there is not one, but two resurrections. We presume both resurrections are future events.
1. a raising up, rising (e.g. from a seat)
2. a rising from the dead
2A. that of Christ
2B. that of all men at the end of this present age
2C. the resurrection of certain ones history who were restored to life (Heb. 11:35)
The primary definition is “rising” as typically understood, whereas the rising from the dead in s technical sense are the remaining four definitions.

conclusions
Jean Hardouin wrote that much fiction needs to be written to overwhelm the simple truth, and although he was explicitly referring the alleged writings of the Church Fathers, it is possible that he may have been alluding to other, unnamed, texts whose purpose is to confuse the faithful, create doubt, and result in atheism.
The traditions of the church indicate a crucifixion on a cross, and this tradition cannot be found in the meanings, or definitions, of the words, as the proper context is omitted. Modern protestants will always be frustrated by their innovations that have no basis in Christian tradition.
We may say that the difficulties of various Greek words is found exclusively due to the failed attempts of reconciling what one thinks one knows, accurate chronology and historical accounts, with what little knowledge one does know, philology. If protestant researchers were disciplined, and not divisive and ever eager to accept strange opinions, then they would reach an unambiguous conclusion.
We may say that protestant opinions are based on presumptions, which are based on assumptions, which are based on suppositions. In the final analysis, these opinions are so far removed from facts, historical, philological, or both, that these opinions can be described as“not touching upon reality”.
We have never held to the opinion that knowing definitions without a context was sufficient. Modern protestants have the text, the Bible, but without the context, historical Christianity, they are incapable of understanding the correct meaning, the interpretation, of the text.
If the Gentle Reader finds our opinion not to his liking, then he can began querying the forty thousand plus protestant denominations as to why they possess myriads of opinions, yet, have no consistency. While we patiently wait for the these results to be compiled and forwarded, the Gentle Researcher will know the truth that certain types of individuals “have overthrown the faith of some”.
