This is the first installment in a one part series exploring the behavior of Sagittarians towards organized religion.
As Astrology teaches, Sagittarius rules religion and philosophy and we expect Sagittarians to be religious, but in my experience, they are the least religiously observant of the Zodiac. Sagittarians, of course, have a concept of morality concerning right and wrong.
Allow me to digress -to say Capricorns, as a whole, have no interest in business, Aquarians dislike friends and family and Libras prefer to be single is absurd, because it is so far removed from their influence or area of rulership. This is why Sagittarians, who should be by Nature deeply involved with religion, but are not. We believe that since they, as a group, are so aware of the “pros” and “cons” of religion, they avoid it in mass. Why would this be so? In a word-Hypocrisy.
Sagittarians know how people should behave according to the precepts of a particular religion and the reality is so often at odds with the expectation, that it could be a rule of thumb, at least in America. The blatant two faced behavior of the proponents of organized religion is, I believe, the reason why Sagittarians are adverse to any involvement with organized religion. The hypocritical behavior that predominates in religion is a “turn off” for Sagittarians.
As previously stated, Sagittarians rule religion and philosophy. Do Sagittarians also avoid philosophy?
We believe they do not avoid philosophy for the following reasons-
1. Philosophy is unorganized and, to a large extent, individualistic. As previously stated, Sagittarians have a concept of morality that, generally, speaking does not fit into a religious model, but can be applied to a philosophical worldview.
2.The hypocrisy that appears in organized religion, can not happen in a belief system that holds to a few overriding principles. These philosophical principles are guidelines, not rigid laws, that can change as circumstances change. This is keeping with the mutable nature of Sagittarians.
Sagittarians by their Nature and temperament are not Dogmatic and this attribute is the main factor of their general tendency to avoid organized religion. The only Dogma the Sagittarians possess is the morality of right and wrong and the fluidity of their morality is based upon the non dogmatic nature of philosophy. This is consistent with their values, as explained by philosophy, and their worldview, as explained by religion.
